Reiner Maria Matysik

* 1967 in Duisburg, lives in Berlin

Reiner Maria Matysik has a deeper interest with the dialogue between science and the fine arts. By using different material he creates models of possible future organisms, the so-called bionten. Matysik is interested in the question of what genetic engineering means with regard to evolution and our future altogether und presumes that the borders between plant, animal and human being will become fluid. Matysik studied fine arts at the University for Fine Arts in Braunschweig and the Atelier Arnhem. In Braunschweig the artist from Duisburg worked at an artistic development project in 2004. Between 2008-2009 he was a Visiting Professor for sculpture at the Fachhochschule Arnstadt (University of Arnstadt). Reiner Maria Matysik’s works were already shown in several major group and solo exhibitions, for example dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel and many more.
